Discover Daydream Island
One of the great things about being a storyteller is that you have the
opportunity to travel to different parts of Australia and the world and
meet people from a wide cross section of business and the community.
Having been battered by Cyclone Debbie in xxx the new owners of
Daydream Islands committed to rebuilding this loved resort and it was
re-opened in August 2019.
I was commissioned to research, write and publish a book to
celebrate the opening and visited the island to understand more
about it's history, the refurbishment an the amazing, new Living Reef.
As a keen scuba diver I was particuarly interested in the Living Reef and how
the team on Daydream had been nurturing the sealife throughout the refurbishment.
Now completed, the Living Reef wraps around the main atrium and is
actually an open air, free form lagoon that is fed by seawater pumped directly
from the ocean surrounding the island.
The lagoon comprises some 80 species of coral and over 100 species of
fish, including some shovelnose stingrays that were born in the temporary
lagoon earlier in 2019.
It's the perfect way for those who are not so sure about the ocean to
expereince swimming with fish, and there's a large underwater
observatory for those who want to watch.
The book, simply titled Discover was used as a presentation to
guests at the official opening and as part of the resorts marketing and
promotional efforts.
Now, I just have to find the time to visit and relax rather than work.
