From Startup to Scaleup and listing (maybe)
Earlier on this year (2018) I was commissiond to co-write a book about the startup/scaleup ecosystem in Australia.
My client is someone who has not only survived the startup phase, but has also acheived a level of success in
terms of undertaking an IPO to be listed on the ASX. Sucess, it would seem. Not quite.
The working title we've picked is Scaleup Survivor.
What started out as a way to share my client's journey has morphed into a deep exploration of
the Australian startup/scaleup ecosystem. And much of it is not working.
There's lots of hype, plenty of incubators, accelerators, angel investors, venture captialists and
professional advisers. Governments, both state and federal, have also now got into the act.
BUT. For all this activity, for all the stories about the few success stories, Atlassian, Canva, Campaign Monitor..there are,
literally thousands of broken, bent and disllusioned startup founders.
Scaleup Surivor is an insiders perspective of this 'scene'. Much of it is brutal, exhausting, financially damaging and
unsuccessful.
And the Australian startup/scaleup environment is radically different from Silicon Valley, Israel, Boston, London, San Fransisco.
We're aiming to have Scaleup Survivor published in May 2019.
So, if you're interestd in sharing your startup/scaleup story, are an adviser to the sector or a Angel Investor, VC firm, I'd like to hear from you. Just contact me on jaqui@globalstories.com.au
